This week Rural Youth Collectives within the Kuyenda Collective project are poised to participate in coordinated actions and global and regional webinars during the 2024 edition of Global Action Week for Education (GAWE). This week of events marks a crucial moment for youth advocacy and engagement in educational reform, with a particular focus on equitable access and quality outcomes for marginalized youth.

The schedule of events promises a diverse range of discussions and dialogues aimed at driving transformative change in education. Kicking off the week-long series is the global launch of GAWE 2024, scheduled for Monday 22nd April, via webinar from 2 PM South Africa Standard Time. Assistant Director Roger Chao of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Minister Amjad Barham from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education of the State of Palestine will headline the event, underscoring the global reach and significance of GAWE.

On Tuesday 23rd April 2024, an enriching regional dialogue will be hosted by CLADE (Latin American Campaign for the Right to Education) at 11:00 AM Argentina/Brazil time. Titled ‘Transformative Education in Latin America and the Caribbean: Horizons and Practices Towards Social Justice,’ this dialogue aims to explore innovative approaches to education that prioritise equity and inclusion in those regions.

Later on the 23rd of April, from 3 PM Central European Time (CET), the webinar titled ‘Pedagogical Attitudes for Transformative Education’ will be facilitated by the Swiss Network for Education and International Cooperation (RECI) and the Global Campaign for Education Europe and Northern America (GCE-ENACE). This session will delve into pedagogical strategies that foster transformative learning experiences.

On Wednesday 24th April 2024, from 2 PM SAST, attention will turn to the critical issue of Tax Justice in the Arab Region and Updates on the UN Tax Convention. Hassan Sherry of the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND) and Tove Maria Ryding of Eurodad will lead discussions on the importance of tax justice advocacy and its implications for educational financing.

Wrapping up the week’s events, on Tuesday 30th April 2024 at 2 PM Manila time, the Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE) will host an Asia Pacific regional dialogue on Public Financing of Free Education Technology. This dialogue will explore strategies to ensure equitable access to quality education technology, particularly for marginalized communities.

Key transnational advocacy areas for the Kuyenda collective include equitable education financing and functional Education Management Information Systems (EMIS). Their focus is on ensuring marginalised youth have access to quality education and achieve meaningful educational outcomes, leaving no one behind.

As Rural Youth Collectives within the Kuyenda Collective project gear up for GAWE 2024, they stand ready to amplify their voices and advocate for transformative change in education, both locally and transnationally.
